Internship Program

NCTA’s Internship Program is designed to offer awareness and exposure to the internet and television industry. We provide both paid part-time and full-time internships during the school year and the summer months to qualified applicants?in our Washington, D.C. office.

Technology Intern

NCTA – The Internet & Television Association is the principal trade association for the U.S. cable industry, representing cable operators serving more than 90 percent of the nation's cable television households and more than 200 cable program networks. The cable industry is the nation's largest broadband provider of high-speed Internet access, serving more than 51 million customers, after investing $200 billion to build two-way interactive networks with fiber optic technology. Cable companies also provide state-of-the-art digital telephone service to more than 27 million American consumers.

The NCTA’s Technology department provides technical subject matter expertise in the development of techno-policy that impacts the cable broadband industry.? In executing its responsibilities, the Technology department translates the impact of potential governmental regulatory and legislative initiatives to cable industry technical infrastructure and technology implementation.

The Intern will be responsible for the following:

  • Working closely with other members of Technology department to design, build, engineer, and develop analytical software to a identify and analyze Internet traffic for video piracy.
  • Utilizing information retrieval, data analytics, statistical modeling techniques, and cloud computing to build machine learning models and apply it video piracy use cases.
  • Communicating clean and persuasive data directly to end users, leadership, and other stakeholder, technical and non-technical.

We are seeking a candidate who is a recent graduate with a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field. The candidate must be able to apply software programming skills to capture and analyze data and extract meaningful metrics from large data sets.

The Technology Intern should have:

  • A Bachelor or Master’s (BS or MS) degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science degree
  • Experienced building AI/ML systems and applying data analysis skills using Python and SciKit to build predictive models ?
  • Experience with AI/ML tool suites from AWS
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, Google, or Azure)
  • Familiarity with Linux (e.g. Ubuntu, CentOs, RedHat) administration
  • Knowledge and understanding of the core Internet protocol (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS) and networking
  • Strong communications skills both verbally and written
  • Enthusiastic

Legal Internship

NCTA’s legal department monitors and participates in all relevant FCC, FTC, Copyright Office, and other federal regulatory proceedings; participates in litigation affecting the cable industry; responds to other federal regulatory agencies when cable-related issues are involved; monitors state regulatory actions; assists NCTA members with cable related questions; and participates in academic and research activities involving cable. Staff authors briefs, pleadings, position papers and testimony, and assists in lobbying efforts on behalf of the NCTA’s membership. The department also manages the economic and policy research necessary to support industry positions before the courts, Congress, federal agencies, and public policy organizations.

Examples of legal intern projects include:

  • Conducting legal research and drafting legal memoranda;
  • Monitoring developments in ongoing government proceedings;
  • Attending industry and government roundtable and other events; and
  • Drafting pleadings and NCTA communications.

Candidates must:

Government Relations Intern

This internship position will be primarily responsible for providing assistance to the Government Relations Department and will serve as a resource for monitoring, tracking and analyzing legislative and regulatory issues that are relevant to NCTA’s member companies and the high tech, broadband, programmer, and communications sectors (including, for example privacy, spectrum, rural broadband support, access to rights-of-way, and competition policy). The position will offer unique opportunities to gain valuable work experience and knowledge of Congress and the federal and state governments.

Job Description:

  • Provide research assistance to the Government Relations team, including basic research regarding Members of Congress and legislative issues
  • Cover Congressional hearings, markups, and floor proceedings as assigned
  • Monitor House and Senate floor debate Attend seminars and provide summaries
  • Accompany Government Relations staff to meetings on the hill
  • Update resource files and support files
  • Prepare weekly reports, presentations, and other materials for distribution to NCTA and its members
  • Assist the Government Relations team with tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Currently attending Law school with 1L experience or more; an accredited college or university
  • Fields of Study: Law, Public Policy, Political Management or related fields are preferred
  • Proficiency required with Microsoft Office products (including Excel and Power Point) required and preferred with SalesForce
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of the legislative process and familiarity with telecommunications issues is desirable
  • Good judgment and initiative
